PCA SKIN® chemical peels are scientifically formulated to progressively reduce the appearance of surface lines and wrinkles, smooth rough skin texture,  improve uneven skin tone, and assist in clearing acne without the downtime often associated with aggressive medical-grade peels. Combining chemical peels with facial treatments and with a daily skin care regimen will help to speed the process toward visible results and healthy skin. If you have never received a peel before and would like to make a consultation appointment to answer any questions, receive a skin analysis, and patch test for sensitivity, please call 630-759-0071.

PRIOR to a PCA SKIN® PEEL

The better the health of your skin, the less likely you will experience sensitization or adverse reactions to a chemical peel. Cracked or dehydrated skin allows for more penetration of chemical peeling agents, which can cause itching, stinging, or burning. It is strongly recommended that every client receives at least one preliminary facial prior to receiving a PCA SKIN® PEEL. A few facial treatments may be necessary to prepare your skin to ensure that you can tolerate the highly active peel ingredients. Priming the skin before performing a PCA SKIN® PEEL will ensure that treatments are a success and that every client receives the best results possible while recovering faster without adverse reactions.

CONTRA-INDICATIONS of a PCA SKIN® PEEL:

  • If you are lactating, pregnant or think you might be pregnant, you can NOT receive a chemical peel. However as a peel alternative, you can receive an Oxygenating Trio® Treatment.

  • If you are using a prescribed exfoliant such as Retin-A®, Renova®, Differin®, Tazorac®, Avage® or a high percentage glycolic acid product, discontinue use for approximately 10 days prior to your chemical peel. Please consult your physician before discontinuing the use of any prescription medication.

AFTER a PCA SKIN® PEEL

Your post-treatment care will impact the results of PCA SKIN® PEEL. Immediately after your peel, your skin may appear red and flushed. As your skin goes through the renewal process, it is normal to experience dryness, redness and tightness, as well as some peeling or flaking within a week. You may also notice a temporarily more pronounced appearance of pigmentation as it rises to the skin’s surface. These side effects will subside quickly with proper post-treatment care, starting with the PCA SKIN® Post-Procedure Solution Kit (retail price $40). After a peel, your skin is sensitive. You should use a sensitive skin facial wash and always wear a sunscreen (minimum SPF 30) to minimize possible sun damage. Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 2 weeks to prevent hyperpigmentation. Your skin will likely begin flaking within the first 2-3 days after the peel. Never pick or pull shedding skin, allow skin to naturally slough off. You may polish your face using a gentle exfoliator. You may continue flaking for approximately 7-10 days post peel. Keep treated area moisturized for the duration of the peeling process by applying a slightly thicker moisturizer likeSilkCoat Balm, ReBalance, or CliniCalm.

  • These superficial peels result in little to no downtime. Treatments may cause slight redness, tightness, peeling, flaking and/or temporary dryness.
  • Most clients find it unnecessary to apply makeup, as the skin will be smooth, dewy and radiant following your treatment. If you would like to apply makeup, allow approximately an hour for the pH of the skin to stabilize before applying foundation.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat. Always use daily sunscreen protection.
  • Do NOT pick or pull on any loosening or exfoliating skin. This could potentially cause hyperpigmentation.
  • Do NOT apply ice or ice water to the treated areas.
  • Do NOT put the face directly into a hot shower spray.
  • Do NOT use a hot tub, steam room or sauna.
  • Do NOT participate in activities that would cause excessive perspiration.
  • Do NOT direct a hair dryer onto the treated area.
  • STAY COOL! Getting overheated internally can cause hyperpigmentation.
  • Do NOT go to a tanning booth for at least 3 weeks before or after a treatment. It is recommended to avoid tanning booths completely.
  • Do NOT go swimming for a week.
  • Discontinue use of Retin-A®/Renova®/Tazorac®/Avage® for a week post-treatment. Always check with your physician before discontinuing the use of any prescription medications.
  • Do NOT have any electrolysis, collagen, Botox® or other dermal filler injections for a week.
  • Do NOT have any facial waxing or use depilatories for a week after treatment.
